My name is Sam and I am a caregiver for a CitiApartments tenant who is terminally ill. He has lived in the apartment since 1994, and I have lived with him as a caregiver since 2000. We have received numerous buyout offers to move out, the highest being $5,000. Most of the original tenants have moved out since Citi took over, and it seems like this is an ongoing cycle now of tenants moving in and out.
CitiApartments seems to have picked up on my friend's terminal illness and has targeted him using a variety of tactics in order to move us out. They've attempted to trick us into signing a new lease, have offered buyouts, and haven't responded to requests for repairs and cleanliness.
I think that they think that they think my friend's vulnerability will make it easier to move us out. They have targeted other long-term tenants in the buildings through harassing phone calls and banked rent increases for only the long-term tenants.
I would like CitiApartments to maintain their building, keeping the lobby and elevator clean, and repairing leaks in the baement. I would also like to see them stop harassing long-term tenants with things like banked rent increases from improvements done years ago. I would like 24-hour notices for entry to be honored. We just want them to follow the law.
CitiApartments wants to get out of rent-control laws, and I would like the City of San Francisco to hold them accountable. We need to maintain affordable housing in the city, and CitiApartments is not helping our community do that!
